Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I was away for almost the entire month of February. Bit of work, lots of play. (I’ll be posting about the ‘play’ soon….stay tuned!)
Now its Spring! One of the first signs of spring around here are the street sweepers. Nothing I love more than seeing them sweeping up all the sand and grit, and washing the streets all fresh and clean. It’s like a big ‘welcome’ to warmer weather and new beginnings!
Spring is also a great time to sweep up some of our own grit. You know, that gunky stuff that clogs up our hearts, souls and minds. How long has it been since you did some spring cleaning of your life? Months? Years? Never?
Well, it’s never too late to start!
Do a quick check in with yourself. Ask yourself these questions, and rate yourself using a scale of 1-10 (1 being minimum, 10 being maximum):
–What’s your stress level?
–How are your primary relationships (spouse, kids, family, close friends) doing?
–How is your health? Weight, energy, sleep, nutrition?
–How happy are you, overall?
–How connected are you to your feelings? How well are you able to recognize, acknowledge, and feel what’s going on?
–How satisfied are you with life these days?
If you scored lower than a 5 on any of the questions other than your stress level, chances are you are in need of some spring cleaning. Your life has gotten away from you a little bit. You aren’t addressing your core needs and you might be in ‘survival mode.’ If so, you are not alone! Many of us tend to ‘coast’ in our lives, unconscious and unaware, until we get a wake up call that things have gone off the rails. That’s when it’s time to re-group, re-focus and do some self care.
Here’s a few steps you can take, right now, to begin to get some movement in your life, and to begin the process of cleaning up the gunk:
- Reduce Your Stress. Stress is a major contributor to disease and will keep you on the sidelines of your life. One of the best ways to reduce your stress is meditation. If you are already meditating, good for you! Try to increase the amount of time you meditate, even by 10 minutes. If you haven’t meditated before, try it for ten minutes a day. There are a lot of great guided meditations on you tube for relaxation and stress release. Try this one! Or, just focus on your breath for ten minutes. You will be amazed at the results!
- Put Yourself First. The irony of life is, when you put yourself and your needs first, you are a better mom, partner, friend. Prioritize your self care. Eat well. Exercise. Journal. Meditate.
- Detox Your Technology. How much time are you spending on your phone, internet, or TV? Reduce! Technology is great, but it’s also a huge time waster and a massive distraction from what’s keeping us unhappy. If you usually watch TV or movies every night, take three nights a week and journal, read a self help book, or go for a long walk. This will help you tune in to what’s really going on in your heart.
- Clean Up Your Messes. If you have unresolved issues in a relationship, address it. Own your part in it. Take responsibility for your contribution. Have the tough conversation. Clean it up. This will free up a huge amount of energy for you to focus on your growth!
These are a few simple steps that will act like the street sweeper. If you pay attention and follow these for a week or two, you will begin to notice things that you might not have before. As you sweep away the gunk, the stuff that’s been keeping you from being awake to your life, you will start to see the real issues. Perhaps you become aware that you have been stuck in a negative thinking pattern, or you have some unhappiness in areas that you didn’t realize. Maybe you’ve been in denial about something that isn’t working in your life.
That’s when your real work begins. Sweeping away the gunk is just the first step.
Here’s my challenge to you this Spring: If you are aware, or becoming aware, that you have some work to do in order to have the life you really want, let me know! Sign up for a free session, and let’s talk about how I can help you get there! It’s not easy to do alone. That’s why I work with a coach, too. We all need help to dig into the stuck areas of our lives. I want to help you get the life you want, and I know that together we can get there.
The life you want is right around the corner. Don’t waste any more time! xo
